Restoration of 78s of Jazz and Classical music.

And other things

Hello. This site is primarily to present my restoration of 78rpm records. However it seems a good idea to add sections on things that interest me and ideas to be shared, so you will find a section on the reversal of channels in Jazz recordings and a memoir of my father (whose collection started all this off).

May 2014 Update

It is well over 4 years since this site went "live" and there have been over 3750 visitors in that time and the average time on site is about 2½ minutes ! I hope everyone is connecting up their computer/laptop output to a decent sound system for maximum enjoyment. There are a total of 12 CDs worth of Jazz music. In the "Tapes" section two more pieces conducted by Bernard Haitink at the Proms have been added. In addition there are LP transfers which are up for a while and regularly replaced as I work through my collection. I thank all those who have used the contact procedure for their interest.

What do you mean 'restoration'?

Through a method of analogue electronic and digital processing I describe in more detail here, I have attempted to remove the crackle and hiss from old 78 records and have digitised the results for your listening pleasure.

What kind of Jazz and Classical music?

As well as a large number of Duke Ellington records, you will find some Jazz greats like Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Muggsy Spannier, Teddy Wilson, Spike Hughes, Bob Crosby, Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Waller among others. The classical selection includes Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, Schumann and Tchaikovsky.
